Shawdesh desk:

The High Court on Wednesday directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove the content of Al Jazeera’s report titled “All the Prime Minister’s Men” from Facebook and Youtube.

The HC bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Islam Mollah passed the order after disposing of a writ petition that sought a ban on the broadcast of Al Jazeera report.

Earlier on 8 February, a writ petition was filed seeking measures to remove Al Jazeera’s report from all online platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Later the court appointed six legal experts as amicus curiae (friend of court) to give their opinions on the issue of banning Qatar-based news channel Al Jazeera in Bangladesh and the removal of a recent report from online platforms.

The Qatar-based news channel broadcast the report on 1 February.
